What is Inshore Fishing?

When anglers talk about inshore fishing, they refer to any fishing that takes place in water up to 100 feet deep.

Look here for fish which are orienting on the bottom structure, whether you’re fishing near the surface or on the bottom directly.

In general, inshore fishing is done within a few miles of shore or around reefs.

Since most inshore fishing is closer to shore, run times are less and full days or half day charters work.

It’s not necessary to anchor for this kind of fishing, but the water is shallow enough that you could.

Inshore fishing involves calmer waters and more targeted species or fishing zones. Here we recommend smaller boats that offer more maneuverability.

They also tend to be easier to cast from versus the larger offshore trolling boats.

Some may dare to say that inshore fishing is less exciting, but that is not the case.

Here in Costa Rica, hard fighting Roosterfish and Cubera Snapper are the targets. There is also great Snook fishing as well as lots of Jack species and to stretch the line.

Inshore fishing is great for everyone, whether they’re kids learning, experienced anglers, or simply someone wanting to spend time on the water. Inshore fishing is a perfect way to enjoy Costa Rica.

Inshore Fishing Adventures in Costa Rica: What to Expect?

Costa Rica has plenty to offer for anglers in search of inshore fishing.

The great thing about inshore Costa Rica fishing is that it can be done any time of year and in any part of the country.

Since inshore species don’t migrate, the key is getting the right boat in the area you will be visiting.

From the South Pacific to the North, there are great inshore fishing opportunities to be had.

The average run time in for inshore fishing is between 15 to 45 minutes. Inshore trips can be half day or full day charters and they are offered all throughout Costa Rica.

Target species can range from Roosterfish and Cubera Snapper along the reefs to snook in the river mouths. Go to the Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica to inshore fish for Tarpon as well.
